6200 Series Graphotype Hybrid Manual/Electric Machine.

This photograph is from a 6200 Series manual

The 6200 series of Graphotype machines do not get much attention.  The 6200 series machines are not as well known or popular as other series of the Graphotypes.  There is a stigma about this series of machines that for some reason makes them the least desirable of all the Graphotype machines.

The 6200 series of Graphotype machines are good machines they just do not have the character of some other Graphotypes.  The 6200 series machines are a hybrid between manual and electric machines, the 6200 series of machines was the first in the Graphotype line to utilize an electric motor to assist in the production of metal plates.

The addition of the electric motor did greatly increase the production capacity of the Graphotype and many of these 6200 series machines were produced and pressed into service.

Operation of this machine is fairly straight forward.  The operator puts a blank plate in the jaws and moves the jaws into the imprinting position.  There is a character wheel located on the left hand side of the machine and the operator selects the character to imprint by rotating the wheel which moves a pointer on the character map or scale to the desired character.  Once desired character is selected the operator then imprints the character by squeezing a handle.  You space between characters by depressing the space lever located in front of the actuating lever.

Main Characteristics of the 6200 series machines are:

  • Electric Motor

  • Hand wheel character select

  • Squeeze Grip handle for machine operation

  • NO Keyboard

  • Most of the rear of the machine is exposed - no protective guards.

A competent operator can make between 50 and 100 plates per hour with this style of machine.

Physical Characteristics: Width of Machine 34”, Depth of Machine 20”, Height of Machine 45”, Weight 315 lbs.  Machine uses a standard AC 115 Volt, 60 Cycle, Single-Phase 1/4 H.P. Motor.
